Act Announced – Kelvin Andrews

The tale of most music fans generally goes something like this: discover the rich, intoxicating properties of music as a fresh-faced, energetic teen; maybe form a band or do a little DJing; keep the passion burning through your 20s, even into your 30s if you’re lucky; and then, stasis. Life takes over, priorities are shifted…

This is nothing to be ashamed about. It’s a familiar scenario. But to the dedicated few, once music has seduced you, cast its warm, loving grip around your willing body, that’s it. A pact has been struck. You’re in it for life. Kelvin Andrews is one such lifer. It’s there in his glittering array of musical pursuits to date: producer, remixer, songwriter and musician. But nowhere is it better exemplified than in the activity that characterises Kelvin best – DJing.

Richard Norris, Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve

When it comes to being a man of many talents, there are few to equal Richard Norris. DJ, producer, musician, audiovisual artist, A&R man, author and journalist… his is a career of many twists and turns which have always seen him at the forefront of pushing new ideas forward and championing diversity and innovation. As 2010 approaches, he is focusing most of his energy based around three projects: Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, The Grid and The Time & Space Machine.

THE TIME & SPACE MACHINE TT&SM is Richard’s solo project, which has just been signed to Tirk Records. The debut single, “Children Of The Sun” and “Zeitghost” was released in July. A second release, the “You Are The One” EP, was released in October 2009, with the debut album set for February 2010.The Time & Space Machine Biography’67 – ’88 – ‘09Things come round in circles. A few years ago a skinny tie and a guitar made music seem sharply angled, black and white. But we’re move on – this time, towards a world of psychedelic technicolour. Introducing… the Time & Space Machine.‘67Richard Norris has been heavily influenced by the psychedelic era of 1967 for many years. He was label manager at psych reissue Bam Caruso. They have remixed Midlake, the Chemical Brothers, Franz Ferdinand, Simian Mobile Disco, Tracey Thorn and many more.‘88Twenty one years after 1967, Richard released one of the first acid house and sample-based albums, “Jack The Tab” in spring ’88. His band the Grid were responsible for Balearic classic “Floatatio”’ and many others. Like ’67 psych, Balearic and acid music inform his new project, The Time & Space Machine.‘09Twenty one years after 1988, the third summer of love is on the horizon and The Time & Space Machine are aiming for the epicentre. A second TT&SM re-edit mini-album and a space-themed TT&SM mixed compilation album, “Moondust”, have both been released this year as well a host of DJ spots at prestigious venues and festivals, with Richard working with film maker Kieran Evans.

Pete Fowler – Monsterism Island

Pete Fowler is a Welsh born artist/illustrator who has worked with the Super Furry Animals, The Magic Numbers, The Mighty Boosh and various other luminaries – his work is instantly recognisable for it’s distinct pollination of late 60′s West Coast psychedelic imagery, pop art and colourful animations. Pete has released 2 Monsterism Island exquisite compilations over the years on Heavenly and Lo Recordings creating a blissfully make belief world that we’d all like to get lost in. He regularly takes his strange and wonderful sounds around the world – Djing on the weirder spectrum of the festival circuit, which has closely aligned him with the modern global psychedelia scene. Pete is also making his own music with Jon Tye under the Seahawks guise with a vinyl release scheduled for spring 2010.

Mudd

Mudd has been DJing for 20 years and producing for 16 of those. His first release, as part of Akwaaba in 1995, ‘Just Pilau’ (on The Idjut Boys Discfunction label) was his entry into the mid 90’s nu disco era. ‘Just Pilau’ was an instant classic and got quickly licensed to Francois Kevorkian’s ‘Essential Mix’ compilation and Ron Trent’s ‘Musical Reflections’ album. This success set the band up to release two acclaimed albums, ‘Do it Tomorrow’ and ‘Too Shiny’ with remixes following for Tummy Touch, Strut, Bear Funk and Session Records.

Akwaaba split in 2003 and Mudd went on to record his first solo album, ‘Claremont 56’ for Rong Music and followed this by setting up his own label, also titled ‘Claremont 56’ with the first release by Mudd & Pollard, ’Villa Stavros’. 25 releases later, Claremont 56 is going strong, with a discography including the sell-out compilation series, ‘Originals’ and unreleased mixes of Holger Czukay’s epic back catalogue of works. Claremont 56 has become the darling of the dance music world and continues to be genre-less and un-shy about breaking new ground.

In his own recording career, Mudd has been one half of Smith & Mudd since 2000, working alongside partner Benjamin James Smith. The balearic classic ‘Shulme’ was their first vinyl release and was voted no 1 track of the year by the DJ History Forum in 2006. Two albums followed, ‘Blue River’ and ‘Le Suivant’ and the duo have continued to mix their influences and lead the way in the modern day balearic scene.

Mudd’s latest project, ‘BISON’, also formed with Benjamin James Smith, includes krautrock legend, Holger Czukay and Salvatore Principato from the cult NY 80’s band ‘Liquid Liquid’. Their first single ‘Way to LA’ has already become a downtempo classic and the second, ‘Soup Fiction’ is sure to follow. Mudd has also worked with Jazz drumming legend, Chico Hamilton on the release ‘Kerry’s Caravan’ and Ahmed Fakroun, a pioneer of modern Arabic world music, on ‘Drago’.
